Flipped Adult Education (AE)

Flipped Adult EducationThe Erasmus+ project Flipped Adult Education (FAdE-in) focused on the development and implementation of innovative Flipped Adult Education approaches for adult learning environments across Europe. The project aimed to transfer the principles of Flipped Learning into adult education by promoting active, self-directed, and learner-centred educational processes. Within this pedagogical approach, traditional educational roles were redefined: trainers became facilitators of learning processes, while adult learners were encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning pathways and personal development.

The project brought together adult education organisations from Austria, Greece, Norway, and Spain, each contributing complementary expertise and experience. The consortium included EBI (Austria), specialising in adult education research and educational technologies; EDRASE (Greece), experienced in supporting learners in remote geographical areas; Intermezzo Ungdomsorganisasjon (Norway), focusing on younger adults, migrants, and refugees; and Asociación Juvance (Spain), working with adults with fewer opportunities and promoting intercultural and socially responsive learning approaches.

An important associated partner of the project was the Global Flipped Learning Initiative (GFLI), including Jon Bergmann, internationally recognised as one of the founders of Flipped Learning. This cooperation ensured the integration of state-of-the-art pedagogical expertise and innovative approaches into the project development and implementation process.

The project was conceptualised, prepared, and managed by Peter Mazohl, who was responsible for the overall project design, submission, and project management implementation. His work focused on adapting Flipped Learning methodologies specifically for adult education contexts and on creating practical and transferable approaches for educators and institutions.

The major outcome of the project was the development of the Flipped Adult Education Guide, recognised as the first comprehensive handbook on Flipped Learning 3.0 in adult education. The guide provided methodological frameworks, pedagogical concepts, practical examples, and implementation strategies for adult educators aiming to transform traditional teaching into active and self-determined learning environments. In addition to digital dissemination through an eBook format, printed versions in English and German were produced to support wider accessibility and transferability.

The project contributed significantly to the modernisation of adult education methodologies in Europe and promoted innovative, technology-supported, and learner-oriented educational approaches for diverse adult learner groups.
