The BonJour! project was designed to enhance media literacy among older individuals, with a particular focus on journalism and the improvement of digital skills. The initiative aimed to foster social activism among seniors and to bridge the generational gap in digital proficiency. A central element of the project was the establishment of a pool of Media Educators for the Elderly — a role that had previously been absent despite a pressing need. Target groups included adult educators, senior educators, media educators, as well as individuals aged 55 and above.
Peter Mazohl contributed to the project as the specialist responsible for Flipped Learning 3.0 training. He developed the concepts for multimedia and interactive learning content, and set up a low-threshold learning platform based on WordPress, ensuring accessibility for senior learners with varying levels of digital experience.
The implementation encompassed a learning needs analysis for seniors in media education, training for Media Educators for the Elderly, and courses designed to enhance critical thinking and ICT skills through media literacy and journalism. A handbook and guidelines for Media Educators were produced, a curriculum for seniors was developed, and a pilot programme was launched in which elderly individuals actively contributed to media and digital content creation.
The project resulted in the establishment of a methodology for Media Literacy for the Elderly centred on journalism, the definition of the Media Educator profile, and the creation of a pool of qualified Media Educators. Further outcomes included a guide for Media Educators, an e-learning platform tailored to the needs of seniors, and a range of tangible learning materials for elderly learners.
